Cadillac Fairview is one of North America's largest owners, operators, investors, and developers of premier office, retail, multi-family residential, industrial, and mixed-use properties. They approached us to revamp their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) pages—resources that inform prospective clients, investors, and employees about the company’s sustainability and ethical initiatives. Through dynamic layouts, engaging data visualizations, and seamless micro-interactions, we brought their ESG impact to life.

Cadillac Fairview's sustainability initiatives were difficult for stakeholders to find and interpret. We saw an opportunity to showcase them with more clarity and engagement.

Each year, Cadillac Fairview puts together a sustainability report in PDF form. The report is rich in data, showcasing their initiatives across the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) areas. The data, which was valuable to stakeholders, was not accessible on their site. Instead, their existing layout was comprised of lengthy text blocks, emphasizing descriptive language over key insights. Without much hierarchy, there was a lot to read, but not much to latch onto. We leveraged their wealth of data to bring clarity, scannability, and engagement onto their ESG pages.

Along the way, we discovered that their design system was not built to support best practices around data visualization. To bridge this gap, we developed a proposal outlining suggested enhancements and why they were important. We presented this to their brand team, with the goal of integrating data visualization colors and best practices into CF's design system. The proposal featured color recommendations designed to live symbiotically with their existing brand colors, as well as detailed usage guidelines to ensure accessibility and clarity in future data visualizations.
