Hi! I'm Monica—a designer based in Brooklyn, NY. Welcome to a living archive of my work. Here you'll find everything from work work to creative side projects.

"Take a gander" is an expression that dates back to the early 1900s and is thought to have originated from the verb "gander," which means “stretch one’s neck to see.” By the 1800s, the phrase began appearing in print to describe the act of taking a closer or curious look at something. // Photo: An ostrich I met on a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway.

Writings, pictures, nonsense, a documentation of charm in the mundane

A better checkout experience for London-based retailer, Marks & Spencer

On Breaking Silos, a manifesto for everyone who designs

My passion for design began at Carnegie Mellon University, where I studied Human Computer Interaction, Information Systems, and Photography. There, I found myself questioning how people interface with the world around them, and wanting to shape these experiences.

To me, design is, at its core, a creative way of making metaphors—and I love how design solves problems in this way. I'm especially drawn to design that embraces play, invites participation, and inspires connection.

Currently, I'm an experience designer at Konrad, where I've worked on a myriad of projects: design system overhauls, complex tooling platforms, data-centric interfaces, and more.

What's Inspiring me lately

Duane Michals' absurdist photography and humor // Witty art from Paul and Wendy Projects // Data humanism from Giorgia Lupi // Kelli Anderson's paper engineering // Zan Armstrong's data visualizations and data thinking
